Day 99

Wednesday, Dec 09 2009
Lots of rain this morning. After a great buffet breakfast at the hotel we left for the RV resort in New York. We crossed the border a little after 10 am where we were selected for a random search. Had to pull into a garage while US border guards did a search of our vehicle. No problems though. Arrive at the resort at 1045 am where we check things out. Our appointment was not until 1230 pm with another Ontario couple so we did some scouting out the area for an hour or so. At 1230 pm we were given a tour of the resort - it a beautiful park with 2 pools, 2 lakes for swimming & fishing, 250 RV lots, 9 cabins, rec hall, etc. After the tour we were shown some options if we wanted to become members as it's a private resort and not open to the public. They are a private board with many parks across the US and a few in Canada. You can buy a membership and then the use of their parks are free except for a yearly membership fee. We declined as we will not be doing a lot of travelling in the next few years while our grandkids are young. After that we tried the key in a lock for the pickup - no luck there - and opened an envelope to see what prizes we had won. We won a watch and Nationwide Getaway Vacation which gives you 3 days & 2 nights in 14 different spots (you have to choose 1 spot) in the US. They only pay for your accommodations, you are responsible for the rest. We have 18 months to decide if we will use it. We also got a $50 gas card. After we left the resort we gas up with the card and then decided to go back to Niagara Falls in Canada for the night. When we crossed the border we showed them the watch that we had won and they made us go the duty place where they said we had to pay $35 duty on it as the tag on the box showed a price of $249.95US for the watch. The watch did not look that expensive to me so I let them confiscate it - Ruby had a good laugh at that one. In hindsight we should have got rid of the box and wore the watch - but hindsights 2020 lol. That's what you get for being honest. It was dark when we got to Niagara Falls and we got to see some of the light display. We spent the night at Embassy Suites overlooking the falls - beautiful room with jacuzzi.
