Day 1516

A mix of sun and cloud here today with a cold wind and 8. Its 3 here now.
We had quite the day today. Left PFJ in London at 0750 and headed for Sarnia. While we were travelling on the 402 towards Sarnia we began to smell brakes burning and it got stronger as we went along. Pulled to the side of the road and we noticed a bit of smoke coming from the right front wheel and the rim was hot. Played around with the brakes and it seemed to clear up. Got back on the road and caught up to Jim & Linda who had pulled off to wait for us. When we pulled off there was smoke coming from all wheels on our unit. We couldn't travel any further so Jim & Linda carried on and we called roadside assistance. This was at 0830 and by the time they found a tow truck, a garage we could go to and the tow truck arrived & had our unit ready to tow it was 1230. Drive shaft had to be removed, brakes slacked off, etc in order to tow it. He took us to a truck center in Dorchester. We followed him there in our car and pulled our car dolly there. Got in the garage right away but they were a bit busy so it was gonna be awhile so we went back to the PFJ in London for lunch. Then back to the garage to check how they were making out and they were just getting started. We then went to a mall in London to pass away a couple of hours. Then back to the garage at 1730 and they were almost finished. The brake pedal pivot pin had seized and the brake valve couldn't released which caused some air to go to the brakes at all times - they weren't on completely, just so much. They took it all apart and cleaned/lubricate everything and then checked the brake shoes - all good now. Got our unit out of the garage at 1745, hooked up our car dolly, loaded our vehicle and headed for PFJ in London for another night. Arrived there at 1840 and parked for the night. Freshened up and enjoying a nice glass of wine now - Ruby has her coffee.
It will put us a day behind but Florida will still be there when we get there. Such is life on the road and these things are gonna happen every now and then - thank god for roadside assistance - they are great to deal with and are really helpful.
